A Classic Modern Entryway Reveal

This post is in collaboration with AllModern. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I’ve said it before, an entryway sets the mood for the rest of your home. If you’re going to focus on one space this fall, let it be your entryway. That’s just what I did for my latest project! I took my sister’s old entry and gave it a fresh, modern look with new lighting, paint, art, and items she already had. Let’s take a look!

Here’s the before.

If you remember a few weeks ago I shared my mood board for this space. I wanted to keep it fresh and classic with touches of modern elements.

The Paint

For my sister’s space, I painted the walls a fresh coat of white (Alabaster by Sherwin Williams). It’s amazing how it brightened up the space and it made it look brand new. I added contrast by painting the door Seal Skin by Sherwin Williams. It’s a deep black/brown with the slightest green undertone. The door looks like a million bucks now!

The Lighting

One of the easiest, and often affordable, way to update any space is by switching out the lighting. This modern sputnik chandelier from AllModern instantly transformed the space. It took it from dated farmhouse to classical cool.

It also ties in perfectly with the brass table lamp she already owned.

The Art + Accessories

Let’s start with the show stopper – the baskets! They absolutely make the space. Though they’re an investment piece, they so well made and even have hooks on the back for easy hanging.

My sister bought the sweetest vintage butterfly frames from a local shop that went perfectly on this wall. By adding a small table with a snake plant filled basket, this wall was dramatically simplified from what it was before.

We kept her existing runner and adding in a couple family photos to personalize the space. My rule of thumb is to never add more than two picture frames to a table. Any more makes for a visually busy, cluttered surface.

In the end, my sister had a brand new respect for her home. It was such an honor to be able to take the time to create a space for my sister/best friend and her family to live in and love!
