I have been all in on the play room space in our downstairs living room. I’ve been brainstorming, painting, gathering, and crafting until my fingers bleed (not really) in order to get this area to not only be perfect for our daughter, Olive, but to also be cohesive with our shared living room (layout image below). Though I still have a ways to go before this space is completely finished, finding a company who makes stylish, washable products for nurseries and kids’ rooms that also blend seamlessly with adult spaces has motivated me to put the finishing touches on this space.
My Favorite Pick for Kid’s Room Décor
Lorena Canals designs products for adult spaces and “sophisticated” kids rooms. They only use all-natural dyes and no VOCs like most carpets do, and the best part is that they’re all machine washable. Plus, part of the proceeds goes to provide schooling for kids in India!
(I received products for Lorena Canals for my home, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.)
Their rugs are incredibly plush and soft for little rollers and crawlers. Olive and I spend so much time on the floor playing with her Daddy Joe’s blocks and reading books. I love having a plush, cozy spot to roll around with my active 9 month old.
Luckily, I haven’t had to wash my rug yet, but I’ve vacuumed it a few times, which makes it fresh and plush like new. Also, they’re light-weight, which makes them easy to move and also throw in the wash when that time comes.
As I mentioned above, it took me a while to come up with a design that was not only whimsical, fun, and safe for my baby to grow and play, I also wanted it to go with the rest of the open main living area. Once I found my rug from Lorena Canals, it was much easier to plan out the rest of the space. I choose the Naador for a few different reasons.
1 | It has a neutral base but pops of fun yet sophisticated colors.
2 | The black tassels add a bit of texture to space.
3 | It’s gender-neutral and easily blends into the rest of our living space.
TIP | If you’re even stumped on where you want to go with a room design, try finding a fabric you like first. That can be curtains, beddings, a rug, or even a pillow. The colors or pattern will often propel the rest of your room to come together cohesively.
After finding the rug, it not only helped me figure out the mood of the space, but it also helped set my color pallet. I’m focusing more on the bluish/green, terracotta, and black throughout the space. Lorena Canals’ black tassel pillow is also a favorite touch included in my baby girl’s cozy reading/lounging corner. (I may have jumped the gun with the reading canopy, but I just couldn’t hold myself back!)
My Play Room To-Do List
Naador Rug | Circle Tassel Pillow | Reading Canopy | DockaTot Grand
This play area has a ways to go before it’s completely finished. I still need to:
1 | Stencil the back wall.
2 | Install new lighting.
3 | Hang the rest of the art work.
4 | DIY a magnetic chalkboard.
5 | Build a kid’s table.
If you’re a regular around here, you know that nurseries and kid’s spaces are one of my favorite rooms to design. You can add quirky elements and pops of color that may not always work in adult spaces. This area will be no different even though it’s ultimately a part of our main living space. Luckily, my Lorena Canals rug allows me to channel my quirky kids design side but also seamlessly integrate this space into the rest of the adult living area as well.
I’ve always said that Olive’s nursery is my favorite place in our home, but her play room may just give take the lead once it’s primed and ready to go!
